Chiropractic
Chiropractors practice a manual approach, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints.
Chiropractors use a combination of treatments, all of which are predicated on the specific needs of the individual patient. After taking a complete history and diagnosing a patient, a chiropractor can develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment/management plan, recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies.
For many conditions, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care is frequently the primary method of treatment. Where other conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition. Chiropractic care may also be used to provide symptomatic relief for patients with chronic conditions. According to patient surveys, by treating the musculoskeletal elements of such disorders, chiropractic treatment has been shown to improve the general well-being of the patient.
The Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences (Canada) is the national governing organization for sports chiropractic in Canada. Chartered as a Specialty College of the Chiropractic profession in 1984, the RCCSS(C) is an educational and coordinating organization that acts as the Regulatory College for Chiropractic Sports Specialists in Canada. Members of the RCCSS(C) have been working with Canada’s elite athletes for over 20 years. Since the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, our members have been part of the Core Health Care Team for Canada’s Olympic athletes. Serving elite athletes has led to affiliations with many institutions and associations, including the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Canadian Sports Centres. Members of the RCCSS(C), along with CASM, SPC, CATA, and CSMTA make up the Service Provider Expert Group which advises the COC on healthcare policy development and provider selection for various International Games. The RCCSS(C) strongly believes in keeping the needs of ALL athletes as our top priority. Chiropractic Sports Specialists keep active Canadians at their best by treating mechanical imbalances or dysfunctions. We get to the cause of the problem, so you can focus on giving your best in whatever sport you are participating in.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is the science-based treatment of injury, disease and disorders through physical methods — such as exercise, massage, manipulation and other treatments — over medication and surgery. Physiotherapy promotes movement, helps ease pain and restores physical functions. Physiotherapists specialize in assessing a client’s condition and creating a specific treatment plan focused on each individual’s goals.
Physiotherapy takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle. At the core is the patient’s involvement in their own care, through education, awareness, empowerment and participation in their treatment. It can help with back pain or sudden injury, managing long-term medical condition such as asthma, and in preparing for a sporting event.
